I am trying to back up two Windows Server to a tape Device (IBM 3581 autoloader) It uses Ultrium 2 tapes. I can see the backups running and the files being written to the tapes. However whenever I try to restore these files as a test I recieve the above message. I have tried files from both servers and various drives and still I recieve the same error message. What can I do to further diagnose this problem? TIA

From the TSM Client re-run the restore.

Once the restore fails, on the TSM Server check the actlog to see what tape volume is being requested. Note the tape volume, from the TSM Server issue 'q volume volume_name f=d'' (No quotes .) and check the access.

Suspect that the tape volume is 'unavailable.'

If the tape status is 'unavailable,' find the tape , check it into the library, update the volume access to either readwrite or readonly and re-run the restore from the TSM Client.

Good luck,

Sias
