daily incremental backup does not complete in a day

Hi everyone,

I have VM which takes more than 24 hours to complete a daily incremental backup.

Here are the logs:

What would be the impact of I split the System State, C and D drive backups into different schedules?

These messages tell me that you are trying to backup the files that make the VM (not a VM backup) and that the VM is running while doing it.

So, anytime the file changes, TSM has to retry the whole file (maximum of 4 attempts by default).

You should either shut down the VM(s) during the backup or ideally, use TSM for VE: http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SS8TDQ_7.1.3/ve.hv/hyperv_container_topic.html?lang=en

You could just increase the resourceutiliztion and achieve similar results, but that doesn't correct the primary issue that the virtual hard disks cannot be backed up as regular files because they constantly change. In other words, if you can speed up the backup, it will just fail quicker.
