Hi,
I have been doing TSM for only a few months, the administrator they had left and I am learning as I go. I am trying to get a handle on how many client licenses we have. If a client license is purchased for a server and that server is later retired, can the license be used for a different server? The Sys admins here believe that once we purchase a license we can reuse it. Is that true?

Also, I have been reading through this forum and see a lot of discussion on VMware vs. CPU for licensing. Most of the posts are a little old, has anyone had clarification on this recently? Thanks for your help.

TSM licenses are numbered licenses, not named. This means if you have 50 client licenses, you can accept 50 active clients (not 50 concurrent connections) If one of those clients is inactivated (all the backup history removed and the node itself removed) it can be reused for the same type of client (meaning you can't use a 1 CPU windows client for a 64 CPU UNIX client)
