I just started having issues with one of my lto-4 drives asking for it to be cleaned. I get many read errors and then the software askes for a clean. The drives are set to a cleaning freq of none. ANR8914I is the code.

This is a scalar 50 tape library. TSM is version 5.5.0
Is there a way to have TSM stop requiring a cleaning after write errors?

Thank you
I will upgrade and post result.

After the upgrade to ver 5.5.2 I am receiving the same errors regarding the drive cleaning.

Hi,

So your drive really needs cleaning?
Even TSM configured not to clean, TSM will get tape error for that.
Have you configured automatic cleaning in library? Try clean the drive from library and check if error will disappear.

Turn off the cleaning on TSM and let hardware clean the drive. I used library clean drive on my 3584 (IBM) tape library

if your library is not set to automatic cleaning then checkin some cleaning tapes into the library and manually run "clean drive <library_name> <drive_name>" can resolve this. in my environment we clean drive manually by running clean command.
