Has anyone used any of these products before, or any of their competitors, such as Storix?

Here's my questions:

1.) What is the difference between CBMR & TBMR?

From my understanding, CBMR encompasses TBMR, PLUS adds the features that it can perform its own backups for DR/BMR purposes outside of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM).

2.) Based upon my understanding above (if that is correct), if I already have TSM, is there any reason why I should buy CBMR over TBMR?

3.) What other options would you recommend for Bare metal recovery with TSM?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

I have both CBMR and TBMR in our environment and it is used on the linux platform only. CBMR uses Cristies own backup client called ubax to do the backup and talks to tsm via the api. In our environment we only use it for the O/S partitions and the recovery is v efficient as it only stores one object in the TSM DB.

With TBMR, there is no need for a separate backup, it just runs utilities to collect information required for the recovery which is then backed up a normal incremental backup
