I am new to TSM. I am running 5.1 on NT and client 5.1. I also backup workstations that hold critical data. These workstations are on a replacement cycle. If I replace a workstation or server with a new one that has a new name how do I keep the data so that it is not lost when the original machine definition is removed from TSM?

Thank you

If I understand you correctly you are replacing the client machines (nodes).? You can just name the new node in the .opt file the same as it was on the old node, then update the password. You can then restore data from server to node. If you remove the node and its associated filespaces from the TSM server, it is pretty much gone.

Thank you for the reply

Yes, I am replacing nodes. My understanding is that when a node is removed all data is then purgred. My goal was to keep the data and associate the data with the new node when the old one is replaced.

To clarify. You should leave the node and associated files on the TSM server. Copy the .opt files from the old node to the new node.
