Is it possible to take backups of specific directories using the backupset command. I am trying to achieve this, but unfortunately our TSM engineer is telling us that it is not possible.

Only FileSpaces (drives) can be backed up.

Your TSM admin is correct the generate backupset command can onlt generate a backupset for a full filespace, but if you define a separate node that only backups the directories you need for you backupset then it is possizble to do waht you want.

Have you explained why you need those directories in a backupset to you TSM admin,
he may know a batter way to achive waht you want if he has all information.

    /good luck
