We are currently upgrading from release aix433 to aix5 along with TSM 5.1. We currently run ADSM server 4.1.1 along with 4.1clients. Can anyone help out in letting me know the following:

If the adsm server is at 5.1, can I still backup clients at the adsm 4.1 level?

Can the adsm 4.1 client files be restored using the adsm 5.1 server if they were not backed up via the adsm 5.1 server (i.e., were backed up via 4.1 server)?

Thanks...........cb

Hi,

The short answer to both your questions is yes.

Just remember when you upgrade your server you will want to apply the base level ITSM 5.1.0.0 (from the product CD's) and then download from the Tivoli site ITSM 5.1.1.0 from : ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/server/v5r1/AIX/LATEST/

Also, if you need the Storage Agent code get that from :

ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/storage-agent/v5r1/LATEST/

Then you should apply the latest patch level which is 5.1.1.4 and you can find them :

ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/server/AIX/5.1.1.4/

ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/storage-agent/5.1.1.4/

When you do your clients you can follow a similar process and you will find the maintenance and patch levels on the same site.

I hope that helps, any more questions feel free to ask.
