Hello!

I should make a full backup from a SQL DB, but when i check the session it wait for a media.
That tape is 100% full but the volume status is filling and nothing happened.
When i switch that tape to readonly and restart the backup it will get another tapes.

Why didnt mark the tsm server that tape to FULL?

thank you!

TSM is not sure how much data it can save to a tape. It uses a figure from the device class definition to determine how much space it left on a tape and it is not accurate as the compression actually achieved varies widely.

What I believe happen to you is that you were achieve a very good compression rate and had backed up more data to the tape than the estimate from the device class so it was showing 100% full while the tape was still in status filling and data was still being written. The tape status will not change from Filling to Full until the tape actually fills up. The backup continues on a new tape.

I don't think the problem was with the tape. More info from the logs at the time the backup was attempted would be required.
