Spectrum Protect 8.1 has been announced today.

Dont see anything mentioned about operations center, anything new with it?

Only details I know it's what is on the announcement. There might be more info in the "Updates in this release" section of the 8.1 Knowledge Center once it's published.

Ok thanks for the info. Good to see server 2016 support.

One thing i don't understand-
"Copy data from directory-container pools to tape"
it's been there since 7.1.7. what do i miss?

There are some pretty big performance items for VE backups, multithreading for VMs with many VMDKs or large vmdks. Interested to see how that makes VM backups faster. Tagging and all the new vcenter functionality is pretty neat too.
Also like how the webclient does not need a java plugin anymore.

If someone tries it out please post your experince. I am gonna let it be in the wild a bit before upgrading.

Kind of confused how mutliple DMs "load balance" vm backups though. How does that work if all the DMs are on the same proxy? I assumed the proxy is the choke point not the DM itself.

Here is a good explanation of the new vmware stuff and where i had questions,

very good news

For me the best it's for BaClient because UNIX restore is really complicated when you want to use webclient (java compatibility) , now baclient work with java web start , merry christmas IBM :)

So i'm disappointed for vmware because it's still impossible to create personal mail reports for vm owner
