Hi All,

We have been migrating from one server (linux 6.3.4) to a new disk based server (windows 2012R2). We are now in the process of migrating nodes over.

Sometimes they seem to copy over correctly and sometimes it seems the process just fails before moving any data or during the data being moved.

Example:

2016-08-18, 12:19:07 ANR0986I Process 21 for EXPORT NODE running in the BACKGROUND processed 30,334 items for a total of 34,953,683 bytes with a completion state of FAILURE at 12:19:07 PM. (SESSION: 2923, PROCESS: 21)
2016-08-18, 12:19:07 ANR1893E Process 21 for EXPORT NODE completed with a completion state of FAILURE. (SESSION: 2923, PROCESS: 21)

I do see the newly created node on the new server but none or not all of the data seems to be getting transfered.

Here is the command I am using:

export node cufts toserver=tsm-windows filedata=all replacedefs=no mergefilespaces=yes previewimport=yes

I have trying having mergefilespaces set to no as well.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Here is the command I am using:

export node cufts toserver=tsm-windows filedata=all replacedefs=no mergefilespaces=yes previewimport=yes
With "previewimport=yes", you will not get any data transferred.
PREVIEWImport
Specifies whether to view how much data is transferred, without actually moving any data. This information can be used to determine how much storage pool space is required on the target server. The default is NO.
Valid values are:
Yes
Specifies that you want to preview the results of the import operation on the target server, without importing the data. Information is reported to the server console and the activity log.

No
Specifies that you want the data to be imported on the target server without previewing the results.

2016-08-18, 12:19:07 ANR1893E Process 21 for EXPORT NODE completed with a completion state of FAILURE. (SESSION: 2923, PROCESS: 21)
That's the result (a failure), not the cause. Check the activity log above this message for errors with PROCESS: 21, that will give you more info on the cause. Once you find the error code that is causing the failure, you can use Google or HELP ANR#### to get more info on that error.

So during the job I see this:

40 EXPORT NODE ANR0648I Have copied the following: 1 Nodes 2 Filespaces 40197 Backup Files 47460078 Bytes (0 errors have been detected). Current input volumes: 000037,(262 Seconds)

but the tape seems to be mounted okay:

ANR8330I LTO volume 000037 is mounted R/O in drive TAPE1 (/dev/IBMtape1), status: IN USE.

It looks like as soon as that timer hits like 270+ the process cancels and I get this failure message:

2016-08-18, 13:22:31 ANR0611I EXPORT NODE started by CFGRIFFITH-ADMIN as process 40 has ended. (SESSION: 3503, PROCESS: 40)
2016-08-18, 13:22:31 ANR0986I Process 40 for EXPORT NODE running in the BACKGROUND processed 40,201 items for a total of 47,461,009 bytes with a completion state of FAILURE at 01:22:31 PM. (SESSION: 3503, PROCESS: 40)
2016-08-18, 13:22:31 ANR1893E Process 40 for EXPORT NODE completed with a completion state of FAILURE. (SESSION: 3503, PROCESS: 40)
2016-08-18, 13:22:31 ANR0562I EXPORT NODE: Data transfer complete, deleting temporary data. (SESSION: 3503, PROCESS: 40)

Still kind of clueless why it is failing. The library/server interactions seem to be fine as I can move data from one volume to another (tapes)

Anything else for PROCESS: 40 prior to 2016-08-18, 13:22:31? Once you see the message about Failure, it already failed, the reason would be prior to that, if the problem is on the source side.

Check for messages for the IMPORT process on the target server if the issue is with the import, and not the export.

PREDATAR Control23

I am going to run the export again with preview set to no and post the actlog of it here.

Will also do the suggested and check the import side for errors.

Looks like whatever the problem is, is on the source server.
The error code it is getting is pretty generic 'process has ended'

That's not the error code, that's the results. There are no errors logged, which makes it odd. You're best bet is to open a PMR to troubleshoot this further.

PREDATAR Control23

Alright, Will do and post the results here.

Curious, any ANR9999D errors?

We did fix this by re-auditing and taking in tapes from the partition of the other server. When we disbanded the tape library partition on the windows server the linux server absorbed those tapes causing and inventory issue on the linux server and causing this export issue. After re-inventoring all the tapes with the audit I everything is working again.
