Hi,
I am connecting a IBM ULT3580-TD4 to TSM to migrate data from tapes to VTL on TSM.
After performing the following I cannot able to detect the tapes

1. Connect the tape library to through scsi and able to detect as a tape drive
2. Define Manual library
3. Define Tape Drive
4. Define Path

Please advice how to checkin or label the tapes in a manual library.

Your help is much appreciated.

What checkin command have you tried?
What is the message you got on the actlog after running the checkin?

PREDATAR Control23

Below is the command i issue to checkin
"checkin libvol ltolib1 search=yes status=pri checkl=bar"

Error Encounter
" Operation not allowed in Manual Library"

I don't have much experience in working with a manual library but from what I know you can't use checkin libvol in a manual library.
I'll suggest you wait for a response from someone with experience in working with a manual library in TSM.
You will have to somehow define the volume manually and assign it to the library.

Thank you. will wait for the expert in manual library.

Search only works for automated libraries. With a manual library, you are the library and you do the searching, and then tell TSM which volume you are checkin in. Thjere is also no barcode reader, so you are the one that has to check the label before inserting it.

So replace "search=yes" with "volume={volume_name}"
Replace "checklabel=barcode" with "checklabel=yes"

HELP CHECKIN LIBVOLUME for full syntax.

I have tried your command but still encountering the below errors
command: checkin libvol ltolib1 NH5001 checklabel=yes
Error: ANR8428E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME: The STATUS parameter is required for this command.

command: checkin libvol ltolib1 NH5001 checklabel=yes status=pri
Error: ANR8403E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME: Operation not allowed for MANUAL libraries.

Oh. That's true, no checkin. You just need to perform whatever operation you wanted to do that needed that tape (backup, restore, etc.). The issue: QUERY REQUEST to see the request. Insert the tape listed in the request, they issue REPLY to tell the server you have put the tape in.

Check the help on both to see what the outputs look like and how to reply:

Hi,
Still i have some issue in migrating the data from physical tapes to vtl using stand alone tape drive. Below are the steps that i have done.

1. Connect the tape library to through scsi and able to detect as a tape drive
2. Define Manual library
3. Define Tape Drive
4. Define Path

I need to migrate the below vol on stgpool

tsm: NHTSM51P>q vol stg=L4LSQLY01

Volume Name Storage Device Estimated Pct Volume
Pool Name Class Name Capacity Util Status
------------------------ ----------- ---------- --------- ----- --------
NH5001 L4LSQLY01 LTO4 1.3 T 63.2 Full
NH5013 L4LSQLY01 LTO4 2.2 T 62.6 Full

below are the step performed.

1. update the stgpool L4LSQLY01 next storagepool to VTLSQLY01

hi please ignore my earlier mesage.

No i am able to detect the tapes but when i try to migrate the below error appear
ANR8311E An I/O Error occurred while accessing drive for SETMODE operation
ANR8353E I/O Error reading labael volume in drive

Then my tape will be ejected automatically

Your help will be much appreaciated.

THanks

ANR8311E An I/O Error occurred while accessing drive for SETMODE operation
ANR8353E I/O Error reading labael volume in drive
Do you have the full error messages, the errno and rc at the end of ANR8311E is crucial?

Lookup what the errno means for your OS here: http://www.ioplex.com/~miallen/errcmpp.html
If Windows, use: net helpmsg {errno}

That will tell you why the cause of the error doing the SETMODE operation

Hi,
I have manage to resolve the issue. Now im am stuck on the below error.
