Good day

Before I ask my question, I'd like to summarize the H/W config of our TSM installation.
1. HP Proliant BL640 Gen 8 Blade server
2. 3 PAR SAN attached
3. Windows 2012 R2 Standard. 64-bit
4. 32 GB RAM
5. 2 x Intel Xeon CPU E5-2650 2.00 GHZ
6. HP MSL6450 Tape library with 4x LTO6 drives.

Our DISKPOOL is situated on the SAN and is 3.3TB in size.
It is spread over 6 drives (H:\, I:\, J:\, K:\, L:\ & M:\) and each drive has 11 50GB files.
nightly backups to the DISKPOOL fill it to about 80% (2.6TB) during the evening. At 8am each day
we start the migration to tape.

I believe that we are not experiencing the best backup rates to DISKPOOL and then DISKPOOOL to TAPE as we should.
(The migration from DISKPOOL to TAPE with 4 drives being used, takes 5 hours for 2.6TB - Is this reasonable?).

It has been suggested that we try putting the DISKPOOL on LOCAL drives and NOT the SAN. We have the hardware to try this.
What I want to know, is the optimal way break up the DISKPOOL files on these new LOCAL drives? Is the current config in the
SAN (ie 6 drives each with 11 50 GB files good???) - Have you any comment on SAN vs LOCAL drives for TSM DISKPOOL allocation

Any other suggestons or White papers how we improve the TSM performace on our HP kit? - Would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Regards

Grant.
