TSM Server OS upgrade

HI,

i have TSM 7.1.1.0 on windows 2008 server. tape library (quantum) connected via FC connection. i want to upgrade the TSM server OS from windows 2008 to windows 2012 server.keep in mind that i have to use same production TSM server.Can you guys advise me to do it in proper way. i will share with you my initial planning :

1- backup tsm db and all required files then format the tsm server and install 2012 server then install tsm again and restore TSM db.
2-upgrade windows os from 2008 to 2012 onplace upgrade on the TSM server.
i prefer option one but i dont know if option two will work or not.

Both options will work. Option 1 is cleaner, option 2 is faster.

I prefer Option 1 as well because it gives you a brand new clean install of Windows.

If you do opt for Option 2, still backup the TSM DB and all config files just in case something goes wrong with the OS upgrade and you end up having to do Option 1 anyway.

My two cents, and to echo what Marclant said, Option 1 is the way to go.

I have never seen an upgrade in place of Windows that will not give you headaches down the road. As saying goes - 'been there, done that'.
