Hello all, I just ran the install wizard for TSM 7.1 on a brand new Windows 2012 server. It seemed to work ok. It install TSM server, license, and device drivers. I was expecting to see the baclient folder and the 2 main services, DB2 server1 and TSM server1 either running or there to start up. None of these items are there. Did I miss something? or do I need to run something else? Thanks.

Excellent! Thank you! One more question. I downloaded and installed TSM 7.1. I believe there is a 7.1.1 version and also a .100 version. I think the .100 is a fix/upgrade version but I'm not sure about the 7.1.1 version. Should I just download .100 and run it on 7.1 vs going to 7.1.1 and then .100? And should I do this upgrade next before doing the DB2 part? Thanks again.

All upgrades are cumulative. So if you are at 7.1.0, you can go directly to 7.1.1.100.

It does not matter if you configure the TSM instance first and upgrade after, or vice-versa. The end result will be the same. However, it's a little bit easier to revert back from a failed install if there is only software to deal with, so in that sense I guess upgrading before creating the instance would make sense.

Thank you very much for the help. It's greatly appreciated!

Hello again, I have 7.1.1.100 up and running. I also have the BACLIENT folder now. I'm trying to run some VBS scripts that use DSMADMC and they cant find it. On the other tsm servers DSMADMC is in BACLIENT. I can find DSMADMC on this new server under the TSM folders. Should I just copy it to BACLIENT? Or did I miss something else in the install steps? This is a Windows 2012 server. I did see and start up the Backup/Archive GUI. It went thru a wizard that created a DSM.OPT file with some excludes. But it doesn't work. I tried it afterwards and it gets a TCPIP error. So I guess I have 2 problems. The missing DSMADMC program and the Backup Archive GUI doesn't work. Thanks, Randy

The DSMADMC is not installed by default.
Need to restart the installation of the B/A Client.
Select custom install, then select the Admin Client.

In the dsm.opt file, what parameters are set?

Good Luck.

I ran the installation program again and now have DSMADMC in BACLIENT so my scripts are working.

Below is the OPT file that was created by the wizard.

Also, I don't see a TSM Client Acceptor service that I can start.

Thanks again for your help.

The TSM Client Schedule Service or CAD Service are not installed by default.

Complete the following steps to use the CAD to manage the scheduler on the Windows client:

In the Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client GUI, click Utilities > Setup Wizard > Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler and click Next.

Read the information in the TSM Scheduler Wizard page and click Next.

In the Scheduler Task page, select Install a new or additional scheduler and click Next.

In the TSM Scheduler Name and Location page, specify a name for the client acceptor service that you want to manage the scheduler. Then, select Use the Client Acceptor daemon (CAD) to manage the scheduler and click Next.

If the CAD is already installed for use by the web client, select that name of the CAD from the drop-down list in the Web Service Name page. Otherwise, type the name that you want to assign to this CAD. The default name is TSM Client Acceptor. Click Next.

Follow the instructions on the remaining screens to complete the configuration.
Use the following information to help you complete the wizard pages:

If the sessioninitiation option is set to serveronly in the client options file (dsm.opt), the client configuration wizard and scheduler service might be unable to initiate authentication with the Tivoli Storage Manager server. To avoid this problem, ensure that the Contact the TSM Server to validate password check box on the TSM Authentication page is cleared.

For the CAD-managed scheduler, select Manually when I explicitly start the service in the Service login options page.

Start the CAD service from the Services Control Panel, but do not start the scheduler service. The scheduler service is started and stopped automatically by the CAD service as needed.

Good Luck,
Sias
