Hi all,

We have a backup of system "X (Windows Server)" with rentention policy up to 6 months. As the system "X" is old somehow the OS team wanted a new system "Y" and do new windows server installation. Now my question is what ever the backups we have for "X" system cannot be transferred to "Y" ? If there are any other possibliites please suggest how to proceed?

If you keep the same nodename, hostname and the filesystems are the same, then yes.
If you keep the same nodename, hostname and the filesystems are the different, then no.
If you keep the same nodename, new hostname, then no.
If you use a new nodename, then no.

Once node Y is in production, you can decommission node X and the old data will expire naturally when it reaches it's retention.

Am little confused. It means the new system "Y" hostname gets changed. so if we install BA Client on the host "Y" with new nodename, but with the same file systems then the data is lost ?

The data is never lost. Data from the old system will be in original filespaces, data from new system in new filespaces. So the first backup will be a full.

so we cant move the old system filespaces to the new node ?

Note that you can use the original nodename on the new client. Or you can rename the nodemane before using it on the new client.

rename the "x" client with "Y" and then installing BA Client on "Y" ?

You can install the Baclient on Y anytime you want. After your last backup on X, rename node X to node Y. Then configure Y to use nodename Y, and do your first backup on Y.

The first backup will still be a full because of the different hostname.

Should we also update the filespacenames after renaming the node name ?
