Hello altogether,
we used Ba client 8.1.4.1 until 2 weeks ago, then upgraded to 8.1.9.1 and because this version was very much slower on backups of large Isilon filesystems 8.1.10.0.

There has been an APAR:
IT29661: ON WINDOWS CLIENT, INCREMENTAL BACKUP APPEARS HUNG WHEN PROCESSING DIRECTORIES WITH MANY FILES
with a warning
. If the installed level is 816.1, downgrade to 816.0
. If the installed level is 718.5, downgrade to 718.4
. If the installed level is 817.* or 818 , and if any backups
were done with these levels, a downgrade is not possible unless
backup are restarted from scratch.

So I tried a restore with an older client version (8.1.4.1) an ist worked.
Does anyone know of possible backup issues if I would generally switch back to 8.1.4.1?

Thanks a million times!

No it's not possible based on this sentence that you posted:

were done with these levels, a downgrade is not possible unless
backup are restarted from scratch.

There were changes introduced in the way the data is stored in newer versions to accommodate new features. Based on that APAR, there are 2 options:
1 - keep using the latest client with the drawbacks it brings
2 - install 8.1.6.0 (no need to go back all the way to 8.1.4.1) and start fresh backups. For that, you could rename the filespace or do a "selective" instead of an "incremental".

Thank you @marclant! This is what i feared ...
Too much data for a new backup, it is more than 2 PB. Thought I waited long enough with client update šŸ˜
