I am a newbie to TSM and trying to utilise and understand the administration part of it.

Appreciate if you can advice how a tape is marked full when the ptc util is showing 0.0

below is the output of : q vol

ASC011L6 ORACLE_TAPE LTOCLASS 4.4 T 46.9 Full
ASC012L6 UNIX_TAPE LTOCLASS 5.7 T 3.9 Filling
ASC015L6 ORACLE_TAPE LTOCLASS 4.4 T 0.0 Full

as you can see from the above output that there are 2 tapes whose Pct util is 0.0 but still the volume status is Full , please advice what is the issue.

What's the PCT Reclaim for those 2 volumes?

What's the PCT Reclaim for those 2 volumes?

Thanks for your reply, appreciate if you can advice how to find the PCT reclaim, any command guidance will be very helpful.

The tape is marked as full as while backups were being written to it, the end of the tape was reached. As the data ages and expires, the % Util reduces. Once all the data has expired or been moved, the tape will return to scratch.

You may want to run reclaimation against this pool. May not be necessary if the logs and database for your Oracle backups have similar retentions.

Thanks LED888 and DazRaz for your valuable inputs.

I have checked both the tapes and found that both tapes value in Pct. Reclaimable space is shown as 100.0, find below the output. kindly advice
