Hi everyone,

I need some inspiration on a problem occuring at one of our customers sites. I am searching on Google and on the IBM site for some time now with no result.

I have installed TSM Client 6.3.0.18 64bit on an Windows 2008 Hyper-V-Host. I can backup all Hyper-V guests running on this host - expect of one.

The Hyper-V guest "astarix" comes up with an VSS error when running "backup vm". Astarix is an Windows 2008 R2 system. It has on 50GB disk C: with 10GB free on it. The storage on which the virtual machine resides has about 500GB free space. Vssadmin list writers on astarix and also the Hyper-V-Host did not show any problems. Creating/deleting a snapshot for astarix from the Hyper-V-Console works. Backing up other Hyper-V guests works. This includes Windows 2003 and also other Windows 2008 Systems. I also tried TSM client 6.4.0.0. Same error message.

Here is the content from the error log and the dsmc output.

Hi Stefan,

Did you ever found a solution for this problem? I'm experiencing the same issue with some of my Hyper-V hosts. Only difference is that's its all VMs on the particular host.

Br.

Hi Skakke,

after the machine was moved to another Hyper-V-Host everything worked fine again. But the real "source" for the problem was never discovered. Unfortunally I did not have the possibility to test various things like restarting the Hyper-V-Host or moving the VM to another storage attached to the same Hyper-V-Host.

If you find out something, please post.

Stefan

Hi,

Yes I actually found a solution for my issue. The problem was that some of my Hyper-V hosts had lost their ownership on some of the CSVs.

Try running Get—ClusterSharedVolune | Get—ClusterOwnerNode

and

Set-ClusterOwnerNode -Owners "servers" -Resource "CSV name"
