A Unified Storage Array or NUS is a consolidation of file and block based access is a single storage platform supporting fiber connected SAN, iSCSI and NAS. In other words, a collection of various disk topologies.

VTL on the other hand is an emulation of tape on disk which is considered a sequential device since by emulating tape, data is stored sequentially.
