[Veritas-bu] Master / Media server considerations
2011-12-12 16:30:24
Hi all,
We are in the process of purchasing
a capacity based license for Netbackup along with 4 5020's and the Dedup
option. We plan on putting 2 5020's a two different data centers
we have and backing up locally and then replicating that data between the
sites.
We will have some help from a Symantec
partner but I wanted to get some hands on advice from anyone willing to
give it on determining the number of media servers to have at each of those
two data centers initially. We have a mix of SAP on Oracle, Oracle,
SQL Server, Lotus Notes, CIFS data, NFS, XEN and VMWare for virtualization.
Most of the application data will be on a netapp filer of some sort,
most local storage is just for os booting.
We are coming from a completely disparate
backup solution in that there were parts that backed up Oracle and Notes,
parts for SQL Server, parts for CIFS, etc. We are also moving away
from tape. We have an Oracle SL500 as on of the current media solutions,
3 modules, 10 drives but hoping not to use that in the new Netbackup environment.
What are the considerations one needs
to take into account when deciding on the number and type of media servers
in a mid-sized environment like ours?
thanks, Kevin
