You can also keep the data for a longer period.

Analytics is in the same camp with the other backup reporting tools that
have been around for much longer, like Aptare, Bocada, Wysdym/DPA, etc.

I'm not much for graphics, but the "temperature charts" for data like tape
drive utilization were much more usable than any of my scripted analyses
of bptm and other logs that I've done over the years have been. More info
for 1/1000 of the work.

If you're a SQL guy and can puzzle out enough of the schema (apparently, a
VBR background and documentation is a big help with that), it's pretty
easy to write custom SQL for admin or user reports.

You can also add custom objects to the schema but a) the method seemed
awkward and undocumented to me and b) it seems necessary to plan ahead to
remove all customizations before a version upgrade, then reapply [and
re-test, re-verify] afterwards. And that makes sense to me--if I were
customizing the metadata files in the NetBackup catalog, I wouldn't expect
the vendor's upgrades to function properly with arbitrary user changes to
those files.
