Yes but if you’re doing multiple
policies on the same host chances are the exclusion lists are more relevant to
each policy than global. For example here we typically have policies such as:
SERVERNAME-OS = Operating System files
(e.g. root, /etc, /var, /usr …)
SERVERNAME-INST-DB = Oracle Database
Instance name backup (e.g. /database/instdata01, /database/instdata02,
/database/instidx01 etc…)
If I wanted to exclude /database from
SERVERNAME-OS and put in exclude_list rather than exclude_list.SERVERNAME-OS it
means my SERVERNAME-INST-DB would not backup the files I’d specified
since they are in the global exclude list. To me it seems much cleaner to
make exclude lists for specific policies.

Exclude_list
......or, you can use
exclude_list, and the path gets excluded for all policies.

To
erase the question mark below: The exclude file MUST be on the
client the policy is backing up. As also
noted below it must match the
name of the policy exactly including case.
exclude_list.MYBACKUP would not be used by a the
policy mybackup or
mYbackup or MYBACKuP.

Not much to go on.
Where is the file? What machine do you have it on
(needs to be on the
client)?
File name is case sensitive and has to exactly
match the policy name.
Compare the output of 'ls /usr/openv/netbackup'
(on the client) to
bppllist (on the master, gives the list of
policies).
