vmchange -m <mediaID> -new_mt hcart2

If the media has already been loaded you will need to change the volume group too

vmchange -m <mediaID> -new_v 001_00001_TLD (though you will need to check what the volume ID is on another tape to make sure, I am guessing)

Or you could move it to stand alone and re-inventory the robot.

Btw, vmchange should be in /usr/openv/volmgr/bin

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Need to change Media Type from HCART to HCART2 on a few tapes.

Our environment, NBU 6.5.4 running on HP-UX 11-31 with a Data Domain VTL and MSL6060 tape library. I need to change the Media Type on a few tapes that are currently HCART to HCART2 but am having trouble. We have changed tape libraries since these tapes were created, the tape library is now HCART2 and our vtl is HCART. I tried to set it to HCART2 when I injected them into the library but that didn’t do anything and they injected as HCART. I tried to delete the tapes but get a “cannot delete assigned volume 000746. Cannot delete assigned media” message. Do I have to expire the tapes, delete them and then import them to change the media type or is there an easier way. The data on the tapes is good and I do need to recover files from them.
