NB will not allow duplicated id’s
So yes, if you try to inject a
tape that has the same barcode as one you already have IN THE LIBRARY it will
not allow it..
But the answer to your question is
really is NO, if you have a tape you wrote to called A00001, and you eject that
tape from the library, then you inject a different tape with the same barcode,
yes it will put it in the library, because it thinks it is the same tape.
The only time you would know you have 2 of the same barcode is if you try to
put both in the library at the same time, or when you try to do a restore and
the “other” tape is in the library and it cannot find the files on
it that NB thinks are on it.
And that is one of the reasons I
have custom barcodes made.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] LTO tape label / sequence?
Hello,
The question of
"should we be paying particular attention of tape labels" question
reared it's ugly head for me once again and I can't remember the answer.
Am I correct to
believe that NBU won't import or confuse itself or the database if we should
put a tape in the robot which has the same label as a tape that's has already
been written too and cataloged?
And, should I
be ordering labels with an existing sequence?
