Ok, I got a list of backupids via the bpimmedia command and created a bid file.  When I run the bpduplicate command against the bid file it comes back and tells me I already have 2 copies.  I know that I need to create a 3rd copy on the VTL.  Below is the bpduplcate command and a snippit of the output:

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpduplicate -v  -dstunit hqhp3-hcart-robot-tld-1 -M hqhp3 -Bidfile bid

Duplicate started Thu Nov  5 13:15:09 2009

Activity monitor job id = 426056

INF - Skipping backup id yos_sam1_1220260632, it already has 2 copies.

INF - found no images or media matching the selection criteria

 #

Any suggestions?  I’m still poking around but if someone can point me in the right direction, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks

That's because NetBackup doesn't duplicate tapes, it duplicates images. =)

Pull a list of all the backupids on the tapes through bpimmedia, dump that to a file (known as a Bid file), then you can use that as the input to a bpduplicate command to copy all of the images to another STU.

Once you've verified that all duplications were successful, you can expire the copies of those backupids that live on those tapes and you're good.

Our environment, HP-UX 11-31 with a SureStore 20/700 tape library, one master / media server running NetBackup 6.5.2 backing up mainly HP servers with a few Sun and Windows boxes thrown in.  One NBU 6.5.2 SSO media server running on windows.

We are in the process of installing and migrating to a Datadomain VTL.  We have a few tapes that have been duplicated and are left in our tape library, these tapes are also all in their own volume pool.  I would like to duplicate / copy those tapes to the Datadomain VTL.  I’m looking at the bpduplicate command and don’t see an option to copy using bar code labels or volume pool as a source.  Can anyone out there shed some light on how I can do this?  An example of the command line would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance..
