Here is what I've determined through my tests: Netbackup 'bplist -l' data is collected at the beginning of the backup. If the file size or modification time changes during the backup, that will not be reflected in 'bplist' output.
Regarding warning messages when the file is modified during backup -- I did not find anything in 'bperror' output or in the GUI job monitor while the test backup was running. On UNIX clients it looks like this does not happen by default. However, I just found this in the Netbackup UNIX Admin Guide, volume 2:
BUSY_FILE_PROCESSING
The BUSY_FILE_PROCESSING entry allows the user to control NetBackup actions when a file changes while being backed up. Default:BUSY_FILE_PROCESSING option is not in bp.conf and busy-file processingdoes not occur.
For more information, see "Busy file processing (UNIX clients only)" on page 105 for instructions on setting this option. You can add this option to the /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file on a UNIX client.
