Hi All,
We encountered a problem over the weekend with Basic Disk Staging.
We have a user initiated job backing up Oracle databases that writes to disk storage overnight. A 6am the following morning we have a staging job that runs and picks up the overnight backups and writes them to tape. As capacity of the disk is reached
an image cleanup occurs, removing the images written to tape until the low water mark is reached.
This has been occurring without issue until this weekend. This weekend we had a number of failures due to insufficient disk space. After trawling around the contents of individual tapes I found that the staging job hadn’t been writing anything to tape
since Thursday morning however the job was completing with status 0, the kilobytes written for the job also seemed to be correct.
Once we restarted Netbackup on the Master and Media servers the staging job ran correctly with data written to tape now showing in the contents of the tape.
I am wondering if anyone has seen this behaviour before? Is there a way of detecting that images haven’t been staged, possibly through a script, without having to eyeball the contents of each tape used by the staging policy?
Thanks for any help that you can provide.
