Notice that this TechNote was written for NetBackup 5.x. It is still a very good documentation of how DSSUs work. NetBackup 6.x (specially 6.5) introduced many enhancements in disk-based backup and capacity management. These new enhancements assume that each DSU/DSSU is independent of each other with respect to capacity/failure-condition. So, if you have multiple DSU/DSSUs reside on the same disk (partition), some of the new enhancements might not behave as desired. It is definitely not recommended/best practice for the same reason.
