You can use a backup network for exchange backups, however, you need add
entries to your hosts file on the backup server.  Use the name of the
exchange server in the hosts file but use the ip of the exchange backup
network interface.  You will have to ensure that the backup server looks
to the hosts file before going to DNS, but other than that it just
works.  This way netbackup can use the real exchange server name to talk
to exchange, but TCP can resolve the backup network interface....

This is how we do it and it works well....

We tried this, and came to the conclusion that it won't work because of
the way Exchange and the NetBackup extension for Exchange work together.
It's basically required that you use the DNS name for the exchange
server to access the database properly to back it up properly.
