The old way of doing SAN media servers doesn't seem to be in favor any
more. See the Veritas NetBackup High Availibility Administrator's Guide
section on "Enhanced media server configuration," on p 115.

We have a Solaris 10 x86 master server(formerly Sol 9 Sparc) which is
unable to backup our largest filesystem(7TB, 180 million files) over
NDMP.

It appears that bpdbm is hitting a 4GB limit of some kind because the
backup is failing with the following error in the bpdbm log:

21:36:38.010 [6084] <32> add_files: File: nbe_cat_ImgNameSector.cpp
Line: 201: invalid offset, Function: NBE_Cat_Name_Sector::getName

I'm attempting a backup with a similar number of files not using NDMP to
see if it's an NDMP issue. Also we moved the catalog to ZFS for the new
master server so I'm also trying the same backup on a UFS catalog.

So, has anyone else had any issues with huge single catalog files on Sol
10x86 or just with a ZFS catalog?

Thanks,
-Steve

We have a Exchange 07 cluster that we?re backing up using CCR and
backing up
the passive node using VSS.
We finally got some successfully backups, and now we want to test some
restores before we start moving
Live mailboxes to this cluster. When we do the restore we get the
following
error.

ERR-error writing Exchange object:Microsoft Information Store\First
Storage
Group\Error:BEDS 0XE000FED1: A failure occurred querying the Writer
status.

Has anyone seen this and how do you get the restore to work?

U can't
U can only set retention to disk backup, the disk staging to tapes was
fixed
to 2-week
This is "Basic Disk Staging" limitation, or else nobody will buy
"Vaulting
license" right !!

Hi, I have NBU 6.5.2 on a Windows Master/Media setup. I'm curious how I

might change the retention in the disk staging process. All of my jobs
are
5 week retention, but when the disk staging takes place, it only retains
to
2 weeks. If anyone could help me find where to make this change, I
would
greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Mike

Thanks Bob. I did look through this guide but must have missed the
appendix.

Actually it does work much the same as the old way. There are just a
few extra steps to define the clustered virtual hostnames to EMM.

Hello

Context is MS SQL agent (in an HP Polyserve Matrix HA cluster) backing
up to a LUN from a remote backup server.

We've had to removed Netbackup media server from the Polyserve cluster
nodes as Polyserve panics whenever we get a tape drive failure.
So the .bak file are written to a CIFS share on a backup server, ie
backed up over our network.

I need to find a way of signalling back from the post processing file of
the netbackup client to talk back to the sql agent to continue
truncating tables in an archive database once Netbackup has successfully
backed up the database.

In the old days, when MS SQL server/Polyserve Matrix and Netbackup all
sat on the same server, i'd have been thinking of using the steps in
the SQL Agent job to control this.

However, now that the Netbackup client is outside of the cluster it
appears a more tricky proposition.

Hope this makes sense!

rgds

John
