It's a LAN connection from the NDMP client to the media server. I don't know any way to get this traffic to go over the fibre connections (but then I haven't looked into this possibility yet either).

You don't need the SAN Client but with 6.5.2, you can use disk as a
backup target for NDMP clients. We're using DSSUs
here.
