Have a look at options to bplabel command. Extract from Commands manual:

-erase [-l]
This option is used to erase the media. Short erase is the default
erase. If -l option is specified, the media is long erased. A long erase
operation can take a long time depending on the type of drive.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't aggressive space
reclamation on a DDR run counter to the point of the thing?  The more
blocks you have on there, the better the odds that the next block will
be a duplicate.  Obviously you can't keep unused blocks forever, but
otherwise I would think you would want to be pretty moderate in how you
go about this.

Are you really running that lean on the DDR?
