We are looking to upgrade our Sun SPARC master server but stay within the confines of the tier 1 license. Currently are running a V240 with 2x US-IIIi 1Ghz procs and 4GB RAM.

Looking forward, I would like to have enough IO throughput to support 4 aggregate gig-E and 2x 4Gbps FC (one to disk and one to VTL/DeDupe).

When I look at a tier matrix I got a while back from a vendor, it looks like a V490 might be the correct choice. Opinions?

Or will the existing V240 support this now, properly tuned?

Or does anyone think Solarix 10 x86 (master server on this is pretty new, so I'm uncomfortable, but could be convinced) or an AIX P5 or P6 would be better to handle such loads?
