Sybase may have improved over the years but about 8 years ago I worked
for a Fortune 500 that had been a Sybase shop. We dumped Sybase for
many reasons including the fact that it didn't scale very well. I doubt
scalability at the level I'm speaking of is going to be an issue for NBU
EMM but I saw enough of the difference between Sybase and Oracle at the
time to make me think Oracle was the better product overall.

Jon,

It really has nothing to do with the size...just the performance. It is
not
the x86 architecture that Sybase has an issue with as far as I know
because
we have only seen the issue on the Thumper. I just know that anytime we
have put Sybase on the Thumper the performance has been bad. Someone,
somewhere, may have had a good experience with it...but I haven't seen
it
yet so I can't recommend it. Also is the BMR factor I mentioned.

Renee,
I thought that EMM database was small, but I guess the size depends on a

lot of things.

Can you give more information about why the Sybase database doesn't like

Solaris x86? I've considered the thumper for an almost-all-in-one
solution myself, but never thought EMM BMR would be a problem. For Sparc

BMR, I was going to use a V100, and for the windows side, a Dell
something.
