Were the tape drives the bottleneck before?  If not - and for most users, the tape drive is *NOT* the bottleneck - then replacing the drive with an LTO-4 certainly won't speed things up and could even slow it down since the tape drive will shoe-shine more now than before.
 
What evidence have you gathered to prove that the drives were the bottleneck?
