[Veritas-bu] Measuring redundant backup data
2008-04-08 17:57:24
In a traditional Netbackup shop with monthly fulls and daily
incrementals, there could be 12 copies of files over the course of a
year. There are various ways to eliminate duplication but the first
step is to measure it. Is there an effective way to measure how much of
the backup volume is actually redundant? There may be a minimum number
of copies needed in case a tape fails, and there may be offsite copies
needed as well. I am just interested in the redundant copies to justify
further investigation into deduplication technologies. What tools can
measure it?
Thank you!
