Both pempersist and STREAMS are considered by Symantec to be internal data structures reserved to NetBackup.  In my opinion it is interesting to attempt to understand how NetBackup uses these files, but I would not rely upon this understanding to try to second guess what NetBackup is up to.  In the past I've written utilities that parse and interpret the STREAMS file and from that make decisions about what NBU ought to be doing (or should have done).  When I posted one of these utilities, I got called by engineering in short order asking that I not post such things because the results can be misinterpreted and are often specific to particular versions of NBU.  All that said, I would not encourage deleting pempersist or STREAMS without the guidance of a Symantec engineer--if NBU is busted to the point of needing to do something like that, then we need to be helping Symantec to gather the data so that they can fix it.

No, you are better of shutting down netbackup, deleting it, and starting it again, it should then run the other jobs.

No experience with the stream file but I'm sure someone else on here can comment on it. Ie Ed, Curtis etc

I'm sorry if this has been already discussed in the past but can somebody explain to me how netbackup uses the pempersist file.

Recently I had problems with backups not excuting when they became due -- the solution symantec/veritas gave me was to remove the 'pempersist' file in ./db/jobs/ and also a 'streams' file in .db/images/<client>/

Should I be checking this pempersist file every day and run any jobs that appear in it?

Thanks
