Hi

In an IBM 3584 [ aka TS3500 ] you can assign tape bar to tape library partitons.   When you put a tape in the I/O slot the library knows exactly which library partition it belongs to and netbackup responds according.   The I/O slot is shared by all partitions.

But it appears that no such concepts exists with a HP ESL712e.  The partitioning capabilities are more limited and it appears you cannot associate a tape by its bar codev to a partition.  You have to reply upon bar code rules with netbackup to figure out what what is going - is this a correct assumption?

The I/O slots (mailslots) are not shared and can only be assigned in two large chunks to two virtual partitions - this is the only other way a separating the tapes art load/eject time.

The tape HP ESL is going to be shared between backup exec and netbackup.

Cheers Jim
