We use Profiler from Tek-Tools to monitor and report information across all our 
platforms and backup products. It's Java based and only requires an agent 
install on each master backup server. It even has a way for you to "audit" your 
backup policies in case you are exposed due to a backup not running when it 
should be, it will report tapes used, backup job status, throughput, amount 
backed up, media pools, and the list goes on and on from here. We're using it 
to monitor Legato Networker, Syncsort Backup Express, and Veritas Netbackup on 
the magnitude of about 1,200 backup jobs per day and a total of about 2.9PB of 
data backed up per month with an average tape rotation of around 20,000 tapes 
per month.
