Having spoken to a Symantec tech recently
who keeps close tabs on the dev side in the US, it doesn’t help when
people hold off. He mentioned a lot of people held of for 6.0MP1 so a lot of
the issues didn’t get fixed until MP2+3. Even then as we all know, MP4
seems to be the best but it still has issues. I just found out a bug I have won’t
be fixed until 6.0MP6, quite disappointed but I didn’t report it in time
for MP5.
I did mention that they should get some
customers to test for them as well and help sort out these bugs. The Symantec
rep said that they will try but not too many people their hands up.
I guess they should work more on their
testing and getting customers to do proof of concepts. I am trying to get some
test H/W to see how 6.5 goes but not sure when it’ll arrive.
I guess the moral is, have a play, see if it
works OK, highlight any bugs and make sure you get a fix (MP or Eng bins)
before you go to prod, then don’t make any major changes !!!!
My 2 cents worth.

Netbackup 6.5 - Anyone actually using it?
In my opinion, 6.5 isn't going to be near
as painful as 6.0 is/was. 6.5 isn't an entire re-write of the code like 6.0
was. I still think the old addage of "wait for the first MP" is
probably a good idea, though =).

6.5 - Anyone actually using it?
I know, it's only just been released, and after
the-hell-that-was-6.0, I'm thinking most folks are going to wait a long while.
But
on the other hand, we don't currently have BMR licensed, and the fact that it's
included in 6.5 is very attractive... Actually, just getting all the old
advanced client functionality by licensing the "Enterprise Client"
option is very attractive too.
So
what are other folk doing?
