I wasn't suggesting anyone use Wangtek NOW.  I was talking about what
happened when DDS DAT first came available (we were using DC6525 before
that).  The Wangtek drives worked fine between themselves - it was just
that they and IBM drives I was getting weren't compatible with each
other.  My recollection at the time was this was due to "IBM value adds"
on the IBM model rather than a lack of compliance by Wangtek.  The IBM
model had a higher compression capacity than provided for by the DDS
standards.

I don't presume to be the authority on LTO Media and Drive
compatibility, but even if I was it wouldn't surprise me that media
and/or drives from a company called "Wangtek Super Technologies" screwed
up my environment.  Seriously, don't judge a book by its cover but have
you been to www.wangtek.com?  It looks more like a used hardware
reseller than a provider of enterprise class backup hardware.  I know
back in the day things were different, but between the company name and
website I'm skeptical.

For my part I've got drives from HP and Certance working with media from
HP, Quantum and Fuji with no issues.

Not like the old DDS DAT is it?  I remember my frustration between the
differences in implementation between vendors such as Wangtek and IBM
when I first started using that.   This was despite the "standards" at
the time.

Yes HP Media will work in an IBM drive and visa-versa. LTO is an
independent hardware standard that all manufacturers must adhere to and
qualify for.  If you bought name brand media and it didn't work in a
known working drive from a different manufacturer I'd return that media
to the manufacturer for a full refund immediately.

So that means the IBM LTO3 Drive can even read/write HP LTO3 and HP LTO2
tape but read only for HP LTO1.

My main concern here is becoz the tape drive is from IBM but the media
is from HP.
