Sun is pushing the OpenSolaris for Intel pretty hard.  I don't know if
NBU has anything for it yet because I don't use it but wouldn't be
surprised if it was there or on the way.   Lots of UNIX folks use
Solaris on SPARC and might prefer OpenSolaris over Linux just to have an
OS they're familiar with especially since it is open source now.
(They're even working on moving it from their OSS license to the GPL now
- apparently they have the guy that developed Debian as an employee now
and he is pushing that.   

You may have been thinking of the older Solaris offerings that weren't
really "free" outside education institutions.

As for me I prefer HP-UX for UNIX and Linux (or even FreeBSD) for Intel
though I'll probably put together an OpenSolaris box at some point just
to have one to play with.

Right but there is Solaris for Intel which is little-endian.

But the endian is rarely the same.  SPARC is big endian, Intel is
little-endian.
