Like I mentioned, Netbackup 5.1 does a good job of 99% of files - things like .pst files, sql, exchange, removable storage cannot be done unless you have an agent for exchange / sql

.pst files are a pain and should not be used - when they are open, they cannot get backed up, even with vss enabled !

the key thing is to check the status of your backups that end in a 1, determine the importance of the file or files and investigate further if backups are needed.

As a rule, and this may not agree with all, if I get any performance issues, turn off any client Anti Virus, tracker.exe, VSS or VSP if its configured via Netbackup, check the performance of the Network cards, performance of the machine, the load currently on the server and any I/O disk software that could be turned off.

OK - let's restate it:

Are the open files important enough that NOT being able to restore them make the backup useless in the event of a full system failure requiring a restore?

That is to say is it better to live without backing up the open files or better to live with a slow backup to insure you get the open files?  Or does it even get the open files if you have VSS/VSP enabled?

I saw the question earlier but not a reply to it:  What does one do about open files that aren't backed up if VSS/VSP is turned off?
