Netbackup 6 only has three mediaserver licenses.
Netbackup Server (This similiar to 4.5 Business Server)
Netbackup Enterprise Server (This does San and Non-San)
Netbackup San Server (San only-Backs itself up only-No clients)
San Server is 1/2 the price of a full server.

There use to be a San Master License. It caused nothing but confusion since it
was priced the same as Enterprise.

You still need SSO licenses to make it work. SSO is licensed per drive.

PS. San only means "shared drives" it has nothing to with "fiber
channel"(though this is its most frequent implimentation)

Is there a separate media server license other than san media server licenses?
When I request we get a couple of media server licenses I was told that veritas
said that the only media license is the san media license.

That's not a cluster, but rather a normal deployment.

assuming the media servers backup their respective sites only, and you don't
want to backup a client at site A to a media server at Site B, you create a
Storage unit on each media server, then create two storage unit groups, one
which includes all Storage Units belonging to the Media servers at site A and
one for Site B, create Policies for each site, point the Policies to the
respective Storage Unit Groups and Bob's yer uncle. Not sure if tha't's Bob
Stump or bob944 though.

No extra software required....it's the way NBU works.

Ok here is my setup and what we want to do. We have 1 master and 6
media servers. 3 media servers are site1 and 3 at site2 with 1 master
controlling both sites (their is a 4gig pipe connecting the 2 sites) . At each
site we have 2 Storagetek L700 libraries and a EMC CDL 740 split into side a
and b. We want to move the robotic control to the master for the L700's and
the CDL and then have each media server see all the libraries at their site. We
want the master to load balance work automatically between the media servers so
not one media server is overloaded while another is idle. This will allow us
to loose a media server without loosing robotic control over a device.

Does anyone have a setup like this where they are clustering servers
together? What software needs to be in place to do this? Thoughts? good or bad?.
