It looks like you are going from 5.x to 6.0, the catalog format changes
and a new EMM is created which is part
of the upgrade process. I suggest you consult the upgrade Guide.

Moving from linux to solaris, the catalog format will be the same, so no
problem there, as long as you keep the name of the old and new servers
the same.
However, given the choice, I'd probably stay with Linux, and just go to
a newer more power hardware platform.
