How about slightly less robust software (or at least free)?

I couldn't find any good projects on sourceforge after a brief search (very

reporting?

By far, the best product out there today is Aptare's StorageConsole.  Bocada
is probably a distant second.  You'll find screenshots and contact info at
http://www.aptare.com
