Hi all,

We are looking at connecting up several Linux media servers running either
RHEL3 or RHEL4, and wanting to know what people think of them. The hardware
will probably be IBM Intel servers. Our environment is NBU 6.0 with STK
PowderHorn and SL8500 tape libraries, with 9940 and T10000 tape drives.

Has anyone go any/many of these in their environments, and if so, what do you
think of them. Is throughput good? Do they have many issues?

We will be connecting a few TB of disk to them to use as a disk staging pool,
and then off-loading the data onto tape (DSSU).

Thanks in advance.

Hi James

First check the network, switch ports settings against NIC settings. If you are
using team on the client try to disable it. In my experience lot of similar
problem disappeared when we moved from load balance to fault tolerant team.

Check for firewall and antivirus software on the client.
If you have a lot of small files try to make the DWORD registry keys
CLIENT_READ_TIMEOUT CLIENT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT The decimal value is in seconds,
default is 60 I think.

Snoop on the master and media server may also give some clues.

Michael

bpbkar logging (most verbose) and below is a small sample of what grows to be a
quite large log file (32MB before using pskill to stop the process). Note the
millisecond time increment.

Add this line to your /usr/openv/java/auth.conf file:
enduser ADMIN=AM
(enduser must exist as OS user).

The L500 is I think a multi-LUN library; make certain your HBAs are
configured to enable multi-LUN support. Many SCSI adapters default to
having this disabled.

This would cause what you see.

Tim,
but the size data buffer doesn't depend from the data buffer of the tape?
I know that the LTO3 tape have 128 MB Data buffer....
