Just an FYI:
While I don't use data movers... I believe you can simply disable the
job tracker to get rid of that 30 minute file scanning exercise.
There a reg hack for Windows boxes out there....

Bank of America, hunh?
Bunch of friends of mine work at your new Canadian office in Ottawa.
(formerly MBNA)
Anyhow, with my GF940s, I connected the tape drives to the filer,
installed the NDMP pack on the master, created some policies and started
ripping data off at about 30+ MB/s
the data rates you're seeing in Netbackup aren't necessarily accurate,
as the NAS spends a lot of time preparing data for the backup, so that
time with no data transfer is counted in the data/time factoring, as far
as I can tell.
you'd be better off monitoring your throughput at a switchport of
similar.
I get sub 1MB/s rates backing up 2 TB in about 45 minutes, but the first
30 minutes is scanning the filesystem, preparing the dump image, and
sending the index/catalog info to the backup server.
make sure you've got good pipe from filer -> master.
NDMP is a chatty protocol and does require a decent IP pipe to talk to
the master....

Hi all
Just a quick Q for guidance really . I'm trying to investigate
on ways to increase throughput on NDMP backups
NetApp R200
Storagetek L700
STK 9940b
Currently averaging around 5mb/sec , surely this can be
improved ?
Any starting points would be grateful.
