The server is already 5.1 MP5 - which supports Solaris 10 X86.

I do not have the NBU 5.1 Solaris 10 X86 Client Software. <--- ISSUE

Symantec was more than happy to sell me the client license, but will not
sell me a 5.1 Media Kit.

You have to patch the netbackup server with the client patch set at MP2
or MP3 or better to pick up intel, amd support of x86.
Then you should be able to pick the SPARC or x86 intel or x86 amd
binaries. The last two may be the same binaries, I did not check but the
support comes in a different patch levels.

I realize that I am going to have to run NBU 5.1 MP2+ to support Solaris
10 X86. But I don't think the Solaris binaries are the same.

If I read your email correctly, are you saying that I can install the
NBU 5.1 Solaris 10 Client (which I think have) then apply patch MP2 (or
better) and whalla the binaries are X86 compatible? I'm running under
the assumption that the Solaris 10 SPARC and Solaris 10 X86 binaries are
100% different animals and are not cross compatible.

Is this not correct?

Hello Jonathan,

Please look at this url for netbackup support for os levels using
version 5.1

If I read this correctly you should be able to download and apply a 5.1
patch to support x86 solaris, with a "readme" or limits on the support.

Here is my dilemma.

We're a NBU 5.1 shop. We're not under maintenance, so upgrading to NBU
6.0 is out of the question. We recently added a Solaris 10 X86 client
to the network which I now have to backup. Unfortunately, this is out
first Solaris 10 X86 client, so I don't have the correct client
software. I called our reseller who told me they don't sell 5.1
anymore, but did offer me a 6.0 trial key. Then I called Symantec who
told me to buy the 6.0 license, then call the North America customer
service center, who would downgrade the license key to 5.1 for me. Ok,
that's all fine and dandy, but WHERE IS THE CD WITH THE CLIENT
SOFTWARE?! No one gives a flip about the license keys, I need the
software, which "Symantec doesn't sell anymore." Any ideas? My
reseller is clueless (as usual) and now Symantec seems to be confused.

1 - Does the current Solaris client work on X86 (I'm sure the answer is
no, but I'll ask anyway.)
2 - Does the 6.0 Client include the 5.1 client?
3 - Does anyone have a tar they can send me with the Solaris 10 X86
client?
